WEDDING DAY TIMINGS

HINTS + TIPS

Pialligo Estate in Canberra is a great wedding venue

Let’s be realistic about how long things take shall we

  • I generally leave your prep in time to arrive 30 mins before the ceremony so I can set up and take some candids.

  • You want to be ready and dressed before then.

  • Schedule your time then add at least 20 mins extra.

HAIR + MAKE UP

  • Talk to your Hair + Make-up ASAP about times so they can advise when they should start to accommodate your schedule.

  • This part of the day often runs over-time so always add a minimum of 30 mins to your schedule.

WHEN SHOULD WE GET DRESSED?

  • Start getting into your dress at least 1 hour before you plan to leave for the ceremony venue.

  • Bridesmaids get dressed 30 mins before the bride does. That way we get lovely photos of your crew helping you, it give us some wriggle room should the make-up run late (it often does!), and some time to grab a few photos with mum, family etc before I head to the ceremony.

GROOMS or anyone who isn’t getting make-up and hair done

  • 45 mins before you have to leave

  • Not 10 mins before.

  • Trust me- this happens a lot!

TRAVEL TIMES

Always do your due diligence when planning travel times. Use google maps, do a dry run early on and check the times. Then always add 10-15 mins for each trip to allow for traffic hold up, prep time running late etc.

PORTRAIT SESSION TIMES

  • Whether you are getting couple portraits before or after your ceremony, I recommend a minimum of 1.5 hours if having portraits locally. If you would like at least two locations that require traveling I suggest at least 2.5 hours is set aside that takes into account travel time.

  • Make it special. Have a member of the wedding party organise drinks, snacks + a picnic blanket. Shaking up a bottle of champagne makes for a great shot with your wedding party!

  • Make it a cheap one so you don’t waste the good stuff!

THE THINGS YOU MAY NOT THINK OF

  • Practise tying a tie, work out which side you want your flower boutonniere or pocket square

  • TALK to your florist about what method they use for attaching these.

  • 4 out of 5 weddings I do find us all scrabbling when it comes to ties and flowers. I often end up putting the flowers on the guys to save them from running late. That means- I don’t have my camera in hand to document (though the initial fumblings are usually captured amongst laughs).
