HOW TO GET EVERYONE UP ON THE DANCE FLOOR FOR GREAT DANCE PHOTOS
I LOVE getting on the dance floor and having a dance as I snap your friends getting their groove on. Here’s a few tips:
After your first dance, get your DJ / music person to pop on at least 3 or 4 crackers that everyone will love to get up and dance! Think, popular, funky dance tunes that people can sing their hearts out to as they smash a groove out on the dance floor. This is where I usually get the best photos of the dancing before your photography finishes.
We don’t wanna dance in front of everyone! So here’s a great tip for those dance floor-shy couples. Have a romantic shuffle around on the floor before turning to your guests (best if they are in a circle or semi-circle around you) and grab Mum/Dad or someone from your wedding crew up to join you on the dance floor.
Pre-plan for your wedding crew / friends to hit the dance floor as soon as your first dance finishes TIP- you don’t have to dance to a whole song, just up to the first chorus if you want then invite others up to dance.
Go for broke and just freestyle to your favourite song!
Have some dance lessons and wow your guests with a fancy or fun routine!
RECEPTION FORMALITIES Anything goes really. But if you want a general guide/ideas:
ENTRANCE- Your wedding crew and you can be formally announced and you can boogie in. You can simply stroll in after having a freshen-up after your portraits.
Speeches. Tip- spread them out across the evening. Have one during the entree, then another afterward, or during the main/ after mains etc.
Cake cut, cheese slab cut, or cupcake presentation…. or none at all.
Other things some couples have are a bouquet toss, dance-off, flash mob… it’s up to your imagination how flashy or chilled you want your reception to be.
AND HEY……
If you need a break from being the center of attention or just a breath of fresh air, hit me up and we can sneak out for some sunset photos.
YEP- that golden light that everyone talks about. We can pop out just before sunset for some fun photos, a quiet walk ‘n talk or some cool + creative backlit photos.
If you’re keen on a sparkler tunnel but I won’t be there at 11pm when you exit…. just have it at 8 or 9pm (at least 30 minutes before photography is scheduled to finish). It’s a great way to add some fun to the evening and throw in some energy by getting your guests up and moving. ESSENTIAL tips- get the LONG sparklers that LAST!! You will need to do a couple of walk-throughs and you want to sparklers to last. Have enough lighters (min of 5) and someone to organise your guests. Check out sparkler (and awesome confetti) HERE at the Whole Bride.
