YOUR WEDDING DAY CEREMONY

HINTS + TIPS

Will you follow tradition or do it your own way?

Things to noodle over when planning your ceremony

TIME OF DAY

  • You don’t want to stand in the hot, bright sun in the middle of the day. Harsh bright and dark shadows are not very flattering in photos, one of you or your guests will be squinting and colours tend to get washed out in the bright, high sun.

  • Later in the day (or even in the morning for those wanting a fun brunchtime wedding).

  • HOT TIP - if you want that gorgeous light at sunset (GOLDEN LIGHT) for some portraits (IT’S A BIG YES FROM ME!) Look at sunset time on the day and work backward from there to work out the best times for your ceremony and other timings for your day.

  • If you will be in your reception already (think summer wedding) we can sneak out for some quiet time + capture some gorgeous photos for 10 mins.

  • See more reception tips HERE.

WALK DON’T RUN

Are you walking down the aisle:

  • Together?

  • With a parent or two?

  • By yourself?

  • Stroll over rushing down. Let people see you, breathe while you walk and take it all in.

GET YOUR GUESTS TO THROW STUFF AT YOU

  • It’s fun and looks awesome in photos! I can highly recommend lightweight, environmentally friendly confetti..… and LOADS of it.

  • I love this site for great eco confetti The Whole Bride

GROUP PHOTOS

  • Your family photos are important. I recommend you set aside at least 30 minutes after the ceremony to capture up to 5-8 family/friend groupings. I will give you some great tips on how to best organise this so it runs smoothly and does not take up too much time away from enjoying your guests. We can get more awesome and fun candid shots of friends and family at your reception.

  • Some couples have their immediate family gather after they have a first look + have their family photos before the ceremony. Worth considering if you don’t have much time between the ceremony + reception for some portraits together for just two of you (and your wedidng party).

  • If you want a whole group photo, it’s best done as soon as you have walked back down the aisle while everyone is still there.

ASK YOUR CELEBRANT

  • Where will they stand during the ceremony / vows / kiss? It’s great if they can be away to the side when they announce you as married- at least 2 meters. Otherwise, you may get a gorgeous photo of that first kiss of the two of you AND your celebrant in their bright orange top directly in your background.
